What is the Difference Between Square Billet and Square Steel?
What is the Square Billet?
Above photos shows steel billets are producing in furnace, and cooling after production.
Square billet is a steel billet with a square cross-section produced by a continuous steel casting machine for processing profiles.
Square billet is a kind of steel bar. Steel billets are mainly divided into three types in terms of shape: slab billet, square billet and rectangular billet.
Slab billet: The ratio of section width and height is large, generally greater than 3, and is mainly used for rolling plates.
Billet: The width and height of the section are equal, or the difference is not large, and it is mainly used for rolling section steel and wire rod.
Rectangular billet: The ratio of section width and height is between slab and square billet.
The maximum section of big square billet is 600×600mm, the minimum section is 200×200mm, and the often cast section is (250×250)~(450×450) and (240×280)~(400×560) mm; the maximum section of the billet is 180×180mm, the minimum section is 55×55mm, and the frequent casting section is (90×90)~(160×160) mm.
The cross-section of the billet is called a square billet, and the cross-section of the billet is called a rectangular billet. The side length of big square billet is not less than 200mm; the side length of the small square billet is less than 200mm; the width-thickness ratio of the rectangular blank is generally 1.3 to 1.5, and the cross-sectional area of the rectangular blank is not less than 40000mm^2 belongs to big square billet.
What is the Square Steel?
The above two photos shows square steel, you can see the first photo that rectangular steel bars are put together with round bars.
We can see the edges of square steel are very sharp, that's means they made after cold treatment process.
Square steel, also known as cold-drawn square steel, is rolled or machined into a square section of steel, which is a solid bar. Similar bars are round bar, hexagonal bar, and octagonal bar. The material is divided into hot rolled square steel, cold rolled square steel, stainless steel square steel, twisted square steel.
Hot rolled square steel: The side length is 5-250mm,
Cold rolled square steel: The side length is 3-100mm.
Stainless steel square steel: Mainly used for fine decoration, such as doors and windows.
Common specifications: 3×3mm—80×80mm
Twisted square steel: The diameter is 4mm--10mm, and the commonly used specifications are 6*6mm and 5*5mm.
Material: ASTM A36.
Torque: The standard torque is 120mm/360 degrees, and the standard torque is relatively beautiful and practical.
Application: Widely used to replace rebar in steel grating, steel structure or reinforced concrete.
Advantages: twisted square steel increases the tensile force of the structure, beautiful appearance, greatly reduces the capital cost; sharp edges and corners, accurate diameter.
